We are living in troubled times with the threat of CoVid 19 looming above us. We are all confined to our homes trying to cope with the situation in our own way. For some of us, being confined to our homes can be a challenge and even take a toll on us. We need to keep our spirits up and strengthen ourselves during this time of uncertainty.

Here are a few things we can do during this time.

  • Meditate on the word of God.

‘The unfolding of your words gives light;
it gives understanding to the simple.’ – Psalm 119:130

Social distancing can also be a blessing in disguise. It now gives us time to read and meditate on the word of God. God speaks to us through His word. His word shines like a bright light in these dark times and infuses strength in us. The word of God is a weapon that helps us in combatting our anxious thoughts or feelings that we may feel during this time.

Most of us have access to apps such as WhatsApp, Zoom or Skype. We can start a Bible study group with a few friends through video these apps. Our group can pick a chapter from the Bible that we would like to study together. There is so much to learn from the Bible and now we can make the most of it. We can also listen to a sermon online together.

  • Prayer time

‘Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you’ –Jeremiah 29:12

With time at our disposal, we can make prayer a priority. Have a time of praying by ourselves. We can also pray with our friends or church members via video calls or conference calls.

  • Worship time

‘Sing to God, sing in praise of His name, extol Him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before Him –His name is the Lord’ – Psalm 68:4

We can spend time in worship. We can play a musical instrument or sing a worship song. We can even listen to worship songs online and have a ‘worship session’ with our friends through video calls.

-Encourage one another

‘Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing’- 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Remember, we are not alone in what we are feeling. Everyone around us is also battling these anxious thoughts. Call a friend, pray for her/him. Set a date and follow up on what she/he is feeling. Be accountable and seek accountability from each other. When we draw encouragement from each other, it makes this task of navigating these murky waters a little bearable.
